Northern Iowa defeated Drake 56-14 in the other in-state football battle on Sept. 12 at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.

UNI’s victory came on a day when the school retired Panther alum and NFL Hall of Famer Kurt Warner’s jersey.

Drake fell to 0-3. The Panthers are 1-1.

Jaxon Dailey passed for 242 yards and three touchdowns for the home team. Riley Warzynski had 241 passing yards and a pair of TDs for Drake. UNI intercepted three passes.

Mitchell January had five catches for 75 yards for Drake. UNI was led by Jaiden Ellis-Lahey and Cyrus Courtney, who each had two catches for 59 yards.Need a news break?

Drake was held to 29 rushing yards. UNI’s balanced attack rushed for 201 yards.

UNI plays at Iowa on Sept. 19. Drake is at Davidson on Sept. 26.
