Clark is one of the biggest individual draws the WNBA has ever seen, setting multiple viewership and attendance records for the modern era and birthing a new popularity bloom for the league.
Unfortunately, this heavily skews the WNBA’s viewership figures into games where Clark is playing and games where she is not. As a result, the Fever’s 2026 elimination has had a noticeable knock-on effect.
WNBA Playoff ratings indicate significant drop after Caitlin Clark exit
Data from Sports Media Watch indicate that the 2026 WNBA Playoffs averaged 1.3 million views across 10 games, a new record for the league. However, these numbers were heavily carried by the Fever vs. Aces series.
Fever-Aces Game 1 had 2.11 million viewers on ABC while Game 2 drew 1.42 million on Prime Video. The win-or-go-home Game 3 drew 2.25 million on USA Network/CNBC with a peak at 2.7 million.
The Game 1 data from the semi-finals highlights the precipitous drop, as Liberty–Dream drew 1.17–1.2 million viewers on ABC while the Aces and Valkyries drew 1.12 million combined viewers on NBC (linear) and Peacock (streaming)
Comparing the Fever-Aces Game 1 to the Game 1 data from the semi-final shows a roughly 44-47% drop in viewership.
While going against NFL’s Sunday Night Football also played a role, it’s clear that Clark’s absence has a significant impact on WNBA’s viewership.
The WNBA Playoff viewership should see a bump in the Finals or the later games of the current best-of-five semi-final matchups. Particularly, if Angel Reese’s Atlanta Dream make it to the Finals, the viewership could stay comparable with Clark’s games in the 2026 Playoffs.
Caitlin Clark averaged 20.0 points, 9.7 assists, and 4.0 rebounds in the three-game series loss to the Aces, but will hope to be back in the postseason next year. Given the viewership numbers, the league will hope for the same.
